Literature Circle Instructions for 2007 - 2008


 

Chapters 1 - 7

Note: Jobs are assigned on Monday morning and due Friday morning. A considerable amount of class time is devoted to these projects during the week.

 

  • Job #1

Characterizer

When you finish reading chapters 1 - 7, make a list of the characters you have read about. Your job is to create "Wanted" posters for these characters. Include a simple illustration, their name, and a brief description.

 

  • Job #2

Summarizer

When you finish reading chapters 1 - 7, your job is to summarize the chapters in cartoon form. Include the main events in the chapters.

 

  • Job #3

Illustrator

When you finish reading chapters 1 - 7, your job is to create a newspaper front page that reports the unfortunate accident that took place in Chapter 1. Make your newspaper as realistic as possible.


 

Chapters 8 - 16

Note: Jobs are assigned on Monday morning and due Friday morning. A considerable amount of class time is devoted to these projects during the week.

 

  • Job #1

Writer

Write an alternate story that begins at Chapter 10 in the book. The prompt goes until "This isn't just a hole, he thought excitedly. It's a tunnel!" Begin your story at this point. (minimum 1 page) Your story does not have to follow the events in the real story.

 

  • Job #2

Characterizer

Write a character sketch for each new character introduced in chapters 8 - 16.

Song Writer

Write a song similar to the one on page 37 & 38 that describes the events in Chapter 16. It must be in the style of the song on page 37 - This means divided into stanzas with the first and third couplet rhyming and the second and fourth couplet rhyming. Be prepared to present your song to the class.


 

Chapters 17 - 25

 

This week, we will be working in combined groups with the goal of creating a bulletin board in the classroom. Each person will contribute a design idea for discussion. Then the group will vote on which design will work best for their bulletin board. Boards will be created on Friday.

Please include:

1) Cover Page - Name of book, Author, Publishing Company, Date, and Your Name

2) About the Author - (Biography) - 1 - 2 paragraphs

3) Character Description - Names and descriptions of each (list)

4) Book Summary - brief summary about the events in the book

5) Personal Reflection - What you liked, What you didn't like, Favorite Characters, Least Favorite Characters, Why you would recommend it to a friend.
